Research for better learning opportunities for all children.
PROFESSOR · UNIVERSITY OF OSLO

Monica Melby-Lervåg

I study how children develop language, reading and mathematical skills, why learning difficulties emerge, and which educational interventions help children learn.

A lifelong curiosity about how children learn.

I am Professor at the Department of Special Needs Education, University of Oslo, and Professor at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. My research focuses on children's language, reading and mathematics development, the origins and co-occurrence of learning difficulties, and the effectiveness of interventions.

I work with longitudinal studies, randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses. More recently, my research has also examined genetic and family influences on children's learning. A central aim of my work is to connect rigorous research with educational practice.
